The Value of Personal Style
Imagine you’re at a cocktail party and a good friend flags you over for an introduction. “This is your name, she’s the most amazing tax attorney/margarita maker/friend in the world!” She continues with a story that highlights your creativity/kindness/courage/etc. You’re humbled by her flattering words; you’re glowing in the celebration of your best, most authentic self by someone close to you.
Now, imagine that your wardrobe could make the same type of introduction. You could feel the same confident glow of knowing that people are interacting with the best, most authentic version of you by wearing items that highlight and compliment both your outer and inner self.
Celebrating your most attractive self (the outside) involves dressing your silhouette to make you appear balanced and proportional, as well as wearing colors that complement your skin tone to make you look rested and vibrant. Celebrating your most authentic self (the inside) means wearing items that reflect your personal aesthetic, values, and experience. Bold prints and unique jewelry from around the world can hint at your love of travel and multiculturalism, while sleek lines and impeccable tailoring imply a gravitation toward efficiency, minimalism, and calmness.
The attention to both the outer and inner self is essential to helping each client cultivate a style that is both empowering and comfortable.
Nice to meet you!
I’ve worked in almost every facet of the apparel industry over the past 20 years, from the beginning to the end of the garment life cycle: design, production, buying, retail sales, visual merchandising, and personal styling.
I earned a BS from the University of Arizona in Retail and Consumer Science, followed by an AA in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles.
I began my career in the apparel industry as a fashion designer for global denim brand Guess?. There I earned a valuable education in garment construction, fit, and merchandising, which I lean on daily as a stylist. I know what can be tailored and how, how to spot quality items, and when my client’s money is being wasted on markup.
I began styling in 2013, and have worked for small outfits as well as larger national firms. While working as a personal stylist at Nordstrom, I became familiar with countless brands and designers by seeing items tried on everybody and every body, as well as being educated at product knowledge workshops given by brand representatives. Now my brain is like an index of brands I can recall to meet a specific need for a unique client.
Discovering personal styling as an occupation has been a dream come true. I get to use my expertise to impact the lives of women in a meaningful, positive way- to help them feel attractive, authentic, confident and powerful through something they do every day- get dressed.
My core value is leaving things (and people and places) better than I found them- I want my impact in the world, however small, to be a net positive. Thankfully, my job allows me to do that every day. Not only do I help women look their best, but their interactions will be a little better as a result of feeling better in their own skin.
I live in Carlsbad with my husband, Matt, my daughter Alex and my son Gus. I love hiking, hanging by the pool, and karaoke (with an audience!).
